Are You a Writer? - weekly writing prompt linkup

When I was in the tenth grade my creative writing teacher, Mrs. Darnell, asked me if she could read my writing to the class.  This was the moment I knew I wanted to be a writer.  I had pulled words and phrases out of my mind and strung them together in such a way that they deserved praise.  I was high on the praise.
Then a few months ago, almost by happy accident, I ended up at the first Voices leadership meeting.  And Jennifer introduced me as a blogger.  I was Almost speechless.  My blog was only a few months old and I had only written a handful of posts.  I certainly hadn’t found my voice yet.  To be labeled and titled as anything in the world of writing was an honor.  Again, I was high on the recognition.  When Jason asked me how the meeting went, I told him “I was introduced as a blogger.”  He congratulated me.
And now I’m going to be published.  I won a short story contest held by Southern Writers Magazine.  But I know being a writer is really only about writing.  You write?  Congratulations, you’re a writer.
This post is a link up with Voices: Write to be Heard.  Come Join us for a writing prompt every Wednesday.

  1. This is an excellent point to make. ?If you write then you are a writer. You don't have to wait for someone else to say so.

    Visiting via the writing prompt.
